RCPA Pathology Update 2015 Recap

The Royal College of Pathologists Australasia (RCPA) hosted its annual Pathology Update at the Melbourne Convention Centre at the beginning of March. The conference was attended by more than twelve hundred delegates including pathologists from Australia and New Zealand, medical students looking to specialise in pathology, and industry representatives.

SysmexStandDeborah Steele and Dougal Cowan from Sysmex New Zealand, and Marie Czarnecki from Sysmex Australia were onsite, showcasing the Delphic suite of laboratory software. A large number of delegates visited the Sysmex stand to discuss the capabilities of the Delphic software products and to see demonstrations of the new Single Piece Workflow module for Delphic AP – the Sysmex work area manager for anatomical pathology. A popular response among visitors, following the demonstration, was how they could easily see Single Piece workflow helping them to eliminate a vast majority of potential sources of error in their labs. Several users of Delphic products also dropped by for a visit and gave us some great feedback about the time savings they have experienced as a result of the use of the Delphic AP product.

As well as IVD and software vendors, there were also a contingent of new exhibitors with digital pathology solutions and new genetic medicine providers at the multi-discipline conference. As Dougal Cowan stated following the event, “It will be interesting to see how uptake of these technologies will influence the ongoing development of the Delphic product range.”

We were lucky enough to have the booth next to NeHTA who were talking with pathology providers and vendors on eHealth initiatives, especially as it relates to the status of ePathology – i.e. pathology reporting to the PCEHR.

The Australian Department of Health, National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC) booth was also extremely informative. The team from the DoH were providing vendors and delegates with valuable information and detailed documents on the latest guidelines and requirements for pathology lab accreditation purposes.
