University of Auckland – Sysmex Award in Health Informatics
Supporting education in the community, The Sysmex Award for Health Informatics was established in 2011 by Sysmex New Zealand. The main purpose of the Award is to encourage excellence in health informatics education by helping to foster innovative thinking. The Award is presented annually to a full-time student enrolled in Auckland University POPLHLTH 303 (Health Informatics) who has submitted the winning essay about a health informatics innovation. Selection of the winner is based on innovation, use of technology and feasibility. The winning student receives a cash prize and entry to the annual HINZ conference where the award is presented at the gala dinner.
Each year Sysmex staff volunteer for a day doing environmental work on an island in Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf.
2018 – Motutapu Island – tree planting
2017 – Motuihe Island – both proposed trips were unfortunately cancelled. The first due to damage from Cyclone Debbie and the second because of rescheduled island centenary celebrations.
2016 – Motuihe Island – nursery work and tree planting
2015 – Motutapu Island – tree planting
2014 – Motutapu Island – eradicating noxious weeds; cleaning beaches
